Who This Helps
This is for junior analysts who spend hours updating reports every week. You want to ship clean analysis with clear recommendations, but manual updates eat your time. The Metrics & Dashboards Basics course shows you how to automate reporting with AI, so you can focus on insights, not copy-paste.
Mini Case
Meet Maya, a junior analyst at a small e-commerce company. She tracks 20 numbers every week, but her team only cares about one primary metric: weekly active users. Maya used to spend 3 hours every Monday updating a spreadsheet. After she automated reporting with AI, she cut that to 20 minutes. Her weekly scoreboard now updates itself, and she has time to write clear recommendations.
Do This Now (5 Steps)
- Pick your North Star Metric. In the Metrics & Dashboards Basics course, you learn to define one primary metric. Maya chose weekly active users. What is yours?
- Set 3 supporting metrics. For each supporting metric, set a realistic target. Maya picked new sign-ups, churn rate, and session duration. Her targets: 500 new sign-ups, under 5% churn, and 7-minute sessions.
- Build a weekly scoreboard. Use a simple dashboard tool. Add guardrails: if churn goes above 5%, flag it. AI can auto-update the numbers daily.
- Design a clear layout. Group metrics by theme. Put the North Star at the top. Use charts, not tables. Keep it simple — your team will thank you.
- Add one AI step. Set up a rule: every Monday morning, AI pulls the latest data and sends a summary to your team. No more manual copy-paste.
Avoid These Traps
- Tracking too many numbers. Stick to 4-5 key metrics. More is noise.
- Vague definitions. Define each metric clearly. "Active users" means something different to everyone.
- No targets. Without targets, you can't tell if you're winning or losing.
- Cluttered dashboards. Less is more. Use white space.
- Ignoring guardrails. Set alerts for when metrics go bad. AI can do this for you.
- Forgetting context. Add a note about what changed last week. Keep it fresh.
Your Win by Friday
By Friday, you will have a clean dashboard with your North Star metric, 3 supporting metrics, and targets. You will automate the data refresh with AI, saving 2+ hours per week. Your team will get a clear weekly scoreboard with recommendations. That is a win.
