- Run a quick reliability check. Pull the same number from two different sources. If they match within 1%, you're solid. If not, investigate before presenting.
- Lead with the contract in your presentation. Start with: "Here's how I defined this metric, and here's why you can trust it." Then share your recommendation.
Avoid These Traps
- Assuming everyone defines metrics the same way. They don't. Always write it down.
- Skipping the reliability check. One wrong number and your whole analysis is ignored.
- Hiding your assumptions. Be upfront about what you excluded or estimated.
- Presenting without a clear ask. End with one specific recommendation and one next step.
- Using jargon like "data integrity" without explaining it. Say "the numbers match across systems."
