Who This Helps
This is for junior analysts who want to stop guessing which experiment to run next. You have data, but you need a simple system to pick the move that moves the needle. The Metrics & Dashboards Basics program is your shortcut.
Mini Case
Meet Priya. She tracks 20 numbers every week. Her team wants to run an A/B test on the homepage, but they can't agree on which variant to prioritize. Priya uses the North Star Metric from her course to filter options. She finds that one variant could lift sign-ups by 12% in just 7 days. That's the winner.
Do This Now (5 Steps)
- Pick your North Star Metric. Open your dashboard and circle the one number that matters most. For Priya, it was weekly active sign-ups.
- List your experiment ideas. Write down every test you're considering. Keep it to 5 or fewer.
- Score each idea against your North Star. Ask: "Will this move directly improve my primary metric?" Rate each from 1 (low) to 5 (high).
- Estimate effort. How many hours will this take? Be honest. A 3-hour test beats a 30-hour one if the impact is similar.
- Rank by impact divided by effort. The highest score wins. That's your next experiment.
Avoid These Traps
- Chasing vanity metrics. Don't pick an experiment just because it boosts page views. Stick to your North Star.
- Overcomplicating the score. A simple 1-5 scale works. No need for fancy formulas.
- Forgetting to set a target. Without a clear target, you won't know if the experiment worked. Use the targets from your Weekly Scoreboard.
- Running too many tests at once. Focus on one experiment per week. You'll learn more.
Your Win by Friday
By Friday, you'll have a prioritized list of experiments with clear recommendations. Your team will know exactly which test to run next. And you'll feel confident that your analysis is clean and actionable. That's the power of the Metrics & Dashboards Basics program. Plus, you'll look like a hero in the weekly standup. (And maybe grab the last donut.)
