Who This Helps
This is for product managers who are drowning in possible experiments. You have a list of ideas, but no clear way to pick the one that moves the needle. The GTM Strategy & Messaging course shows you how to turn product questions into measurable decisions.
Mini Case
Meet Noor. She's a PM at a B2B SaaS company. Her team has 12 experiment ideas for the next quarter. Noor used the ICP Alignment mission from the GTM Strategy & Messaging course to narrow down to one wedge: a pain point that affects 40% of their target accounts. She ran one experiment on that wedge and saw a 15% lift in trial sign-ups in 7 days. That's focus.
Do This Now (5 Steps)
- List your experiment ideas. Write down every test you're considering. No filter yet.
- Score each idea on impact. Ask: "If this works, how much does it move our key metric?" Use a simple 1-3 scale.
- Score each idea on effort. Ask: "How many days to set up and run this?" Use 1 for low effort (1-2 days), 3 for high effort (2+ weeks).
- Pick the idea with the highest impact-to-effort ratio. That's your next experiment.
- Run it for 7 days. Measure the result. Then repeat.
Avoid These Traps
- The shiny object trap. Don't pick an experiment just because it sounds cool. Stick to your impact score.
- The paralysis trap. Don't wait for perfect data. A rough score is better than no decision.
- The "we already know" trap. Don't skip experiments because you think you know the answer. Test it anyway.
Your Win by Friday
By Friday, you'll have one experiment picked and running. You'll know exactly why you chose it. And you'll have a repeatable process for next time. That's a win.
Fun fact: Noor's team now calls this the "Friday Focus" method. It's not fancy, but it works.
